Why Serve Teams?
Selkirk Community Church has been creating a culture of service for many years. This
has been our core value for decades and used in the creation of our mission statement.
A church that shares life with the community
This was evident when we designed this church. It was also the direction God led us
during many of our conversations. We knew building this church would stretch a small
congregation to its limits. At the same time we knew once the church got built, it would
stretch us even further.
Why....because we could not afford to hire staff for services like cleaning, general
maintenance, scheduling events, setting up nets, tables and chairs etc.etc. It’s a
building that has the doors open 7 days a week from 9am until 10pm on most days.
We are currently averaging 750 – 1,000 people using this facility every week.
Our church has become far bigger than a Sunday morning service.
So what does this mean?
It means this church is doing exactly what God intended it to do...
Connect and build relationships.
But it also means we have a boat load of work ahead of us in order to
keep Gods vision going. This is where the serve teams come in.
Many of you are currently involved serving within this church. Creating structure and visibility within these different serve teams will be beneficial in many ways.
a) It will help support the pastoral staff and facility co-coordinator when a major event
happens or gets booked. Also helps with the day to day functions of the church.
b) It gives people an opportunity to serve in areas they feel most comfortable
serving in.
c) It opens the doors for new comers to be involved in any one of these areas.
d) It also helps split up some of the work so people will not burn out because they
are currently involved in too many areas.
e) And it also opens up opportunities to have spiritual conversations with the people
in your team and the people using our facility.
